The Mississippi River is the eastern border. Bridges across the river are located in Perry County to the south and St. Louis County to the north.

The New Bourbon port is located at Upper River Mile 120.5, 3 miles south of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The port facility features a slackwater harbor and 48 feet of dock frontage. The dock works two barges at once, with fleeting for up to 100 barges nearby. There are opportunities for inbound/outbound general cargo, aggregates and bulk commodities. These can be accommodated in truck-to-barge or barge-to-truck transfers, with direct access to U.S. Route 61.

In addition to access to U.S. Route 61 and Interstate 55 only 9 miles away, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad mainline is 1 mile from the port, and there is a local fleeting and switchboat service available.

This provides market access to many metropolitan areas including Chicago, Memphis, Gulf ports and ocean shipping services; same day truck service to St. Louis, Kansas City and Memphis; and next day truck service to Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas.
